Where to go in 2023: Marrakech
Marrakech is one of our favorite cities in Morocco. It’s also a destination that we extensively visited over the past year. Furthermore, its a place that many of our clients have already requested for the summer and rest of the fall and winter. We have been sharing over the past few weeks some emerging travel trends we have seen in client trips over the upcoming season. These are destinations that we love and places that our clients keep requesting – for good reason!
Marrakech is a great choice, even more so as our summer trip space has almost completely filled up. As we only work with the best – tours, guides, drivers and accommodations – that means that they are the first to be booked. And as the world returns to traveling, these top of the line places filled up quite quickly for the summer.
However, that makes Marrakech an even better choice to explore. In the fall and even over the winter (we personally visited even in January of this year), the climate is still moderate (even warm!).
Rainbow colored souks, Moorish architecture, hidden gardens and boutique hotels-Marrakesh is unforgettable. There are so many ways to spend your time in this special city, and here are some of our favorite ways and places to do so! More and more clients this year and into the winter of 2024 are also agreeing. These are places, tours and destinations they’ve requested, as well. Marrakech is truly a travel trend right now!
Hotel: Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech
This special spot is one of Marrakech’s most luxurious hotel choices.
Follow the scents of night jasmine and more than 100,000 roses to the Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech. This stunning hotel is within 50 acres of landscaped gardens, ponds, and olive groves, creating a sanctuary minutes from the city’s bustling medina. The 54 villas are a mix of Moorish and Berber style, and each centers around a pool. The nine suites are equally sublime, with spacious living areas to stretch out in. After a steam in the hammam, enjoy Chinese fare at Ling Ling by Hakkasan or a fusion of flavours inspired from the Silk Road in the newly opened Shirvan Café Métisse restaurant.
Riad: La Maison Arabe
This luxurious riad-hotel is set in the heart of the ancient medina of Marrakech. It’s a haven of tranquillity after a day exploring the city. The rooms are comfortable and traditional. Since 1946, the restaurant has been one of the most famous in the city. There is also an acclaimed cooking school for those looking to learn more about Moroccan cuisine. An on site hammam and swimming pool make this one of our favorite places to stay in Marrakech.
Activity: Hot Air Ballooning over Marrakech
This is one of the most magical experience in Marrakech, and also one that our clients have been requesting this year. It’s also a personal favorite! This exceptional outdoor activity is an unforgettable experience in Marrakech. You can discover the fabulous landscapes of Morocco in hot air balloon. A breathtaking view of the most beautiful sites in the country (desert, villages and Berber oases, mountains and gorges …) and a unique sensation in the azure moroccan sky that you will never forget.
Restaurant: Le Trou au Mur
This charming restaurant in the medina mixes old and new perfectly. We have had clients request to eat here this summer, and we love it too! Here you can sample traditional specialities such as berkoukesh (handmade pasta with a herb and tomato sauce), tride (shredded pancakes with lentils, chicken and saffron) and tihane (offal stuffed with spiced kefta, olives and lemons). Not so typical is the contemporary, orientalist décor and the fabulous cocktails, best enjoyed on the roof terrace.
