Surviving the Summer: Alternative Moroccan Itineraries for the busiest months of the year

· · ·

Summer is a spectacular time to come to the Mediterranean. Days are long and the sun is plentiful. But this also means that you are on holiday with everyone else. And that destinations in Northern Africa, like Morocco, can start to get hot (actually, sweltering). It’s considered “high season” for a reason. Crowds are at a yearly maximum and as the temperature rises, so can your stress level.

This doesn’t mean you need to stay home, however. Not all of us have the flexibility with work, family, and life to travel in the shoulder season or low season. Many of us want or need to make our travel dreams come true in the summer.

This month, we wanted to focus on some alternative itineraries for clients coming to Morocco in the summer. Early June is still a great time to come and see what this special country can offer.  It’s just at the cusp of the hot Northern African summer. So it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice a trip. A tailor-made vacation makes sure that your vacation will be easy, and cool. Our experts will plan stops and accommodations designed to keep your vacation stress-free and enjoyable.

This is a sample trip of some VIP clients from last year that fell in love with Morocco. In fact, they are repeat clients this year as well, with another trip in the works! Their itinerary is to give you an idea of how to best see this country in the summer season. With some expert planning from Bella Vita, your travel dreams can come true.

Casablanca and Rabat

Their international flight arrived at the newly redone airport in Casablanca. Our clients started from here with a stop en-route to their accommodations to see one of the most spectacular sites in Morocco, the mosque of Hassan II. It’s one of the largest mosques on earth. And one of the few in Morocco open to non-Muslims. The perfect way to kick off your trip to this magical country. After this stop and guided tour, our private driver brought our clients to their accommodations for the night in the imperial “garden city” of Rabat. They also enjoyed a brief visit to the city’s highlights. The well-planned city consists of broad tree-lined avenues, a landscaped central park, and impressive quarters for the foreign embassies and ministries. It’s the perfect first stop for a cool introduction to Morocco in June!

Fes

The next morning, their private driver brought our guests to Fes. Fes el Bali (meaning Fes the ancient) is a UNESCO Heritage Site. It is also probably the largest car-free urban area in the world. It is well known because of the skills of its artisans, who are outstanding in trades such as metal and leatherworking, ceramics, woodwork, silk, and tapestries. Despite the political capital of the kingdom being transferred to Rabat in 1912, Fes is still regarded by Moroccans as the spiritual center of their country. A few nights here in one of our favorite boutique hotels are just the way to relax after seeing the city. This hotel is actually a riad. At its heart is an aromatic garden planted with citrus trees, set around a spectacular mosaic fountain creating a private paradise in which to escape the bustle and heat of the surrounding medina. There is also a hammam and spa. In Fes, a private city tour is a perfect way for a visitor to get their bearings. Our clients will always have a private driver on hand to bring you to any other sites you wish to see and help you negotiate some of the spectacular shopping.

Marrakech

After a few days in Fes, our clients were accompanied by their private driver and guide to the must-see destination of Marrakech, a destination. It’s a vibrant city that exhibits an intriguing blend of the ancient and the modern. Travelers have the chance to experience the genuine medieval atmosphere of the old medina and visit trendiest bars, art galleries, and restaurants in the French Quarter, Guéliz, built at the beginning of the 20th Century, all in one day. Afterward, we arranged for them the perfect accommodations in a peaceful, luxurious respite with a rooftop pool and restaurant. Tours here that our clients loved were a full-day private tour of the city and also a full-day excursion to the seaside city of Essaouira. This seaside village is perfect for a hot day and the ideal spot to try some surfing.

One of the best sites to see in Morocco is the Atlas mountains. In early June, this is a perfect stop. Our clients had their private driver bring them to one of the country’s most luxurious accommodations, perched at the top of a valley with views up to Mount Toubkal and over to some of the traditional Berber villages that dot the region. This is a great starting off point for hiking, trekking, and even a camel ride through the area.

After 11 nights exploring Morocco, our clients fell in love. An easy transfer back to the airport for their flight home. A few months later, we are planning their next tailor-made vacation.

This is just one of the many experiences we can arrange for you in this spectacular, vibrant country. If any of these stops or tours sound like something you’ve been dreaming of, contact us to learn more about a tailor-made summer vacation in Morocco!
