Last week, we focused on some great spots opening up in Southern Europe. This week, we are sharing some new accommodations in the north.
New opening in Austria: Rosewood Schloss Fuschl
The legendary Hotel Schloss Fuschl will mark the second property the iconic Rosewood hotel group has in Austria. Idyllically situated on the banks of Lake Fuschl, the graceful, historic property is reminiscent of a fairytale castle. It has been welcoming illustrious guests for centuries. It will be a new opening in Spring-Summer of 2024.
Surrounded by mountains and forests, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl is only a short distance away from picturesque Salzburg. It will feature 98 guest rooms, including 46 suites and six chalets. Furthermore, there will be world-class restaurants and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. All of this while honoring and keeping the integrity of this 15th century landmark property.
London: Mandarin Oriental, Mayfair
Opening in the spring 2024, the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London is the latest hotel to join the Group’s acclaimed collection of award-winning properties. It will offer a unique taste of urban luxury in the heart of London. Situated on Hanover Square, Mayfair’s oldest square, recently re-born, the hotel will provide a calming, discreet sanctuary for hotel guests. At the same time, delivering a contemporary and vibrant atmosphere in the public spaces where the Mayfair community – a crossroads for the world of fashion, media, art and business – will gather to experience the brand’s legendary service.
New opening in Ireland: The Leinster
The Leinster in Dublin, Ireland is set to open in for Valentine’s Day this year. Located on the edge of Merrion Square, the hotel will also see the launch of Jean-Georges Vongerichten’ first restaurant in Ireland, which will be located on the rooftop. Other amenities at the 55-room hotel include The Collins Club bar and supper club. Also, a luxury boutique gym and thermal suite experience.
Some of Ireland’s most famed poets and literary figures, from James Joyce to William B Yeats, frequented the Merrion Square area. Hence, making The Leinster an ideal destination for culture lovers. Cited as a luxurious hideaway, the hotel is well suited for those looking to explore and truly experience Dublin. A host of Dublin’s cultural offerings can additionally be found The Leinster’s doorstep. These include the National Museum of Ireland, MoLi, National Gallery of Ireland, Trinity College and the Oscar Wilde House.
Norway: Six Senses, Svart
Deep within the arctic wilderness of Norway’s Meløy municipality, Svart, the world’s first energy-positive hotel will be opening in 2024. With booming demand for adventurous and eco-conscious travel, northern Norway is one of the last frontiers for a self-sustainable, off-grid destination. The 94-room Six Senses Svart combines a futuristic design and technological innovation with organic materials that use the least embedded energy. To minimize the on-site impact, Six Senses Svart is poised on poles above the crystal-clear waters of the Holandsfjorden fjord, at the base of the glacier itself.
Six Senses Svart is the first building to be designed and built after the highest energy-efficiency standard in the northern hemisphere. It will harvest enough solar energy to go back into the system. This will cover the hotel, adjacent operations, boat shuttle, and the energy needed to construct the building. Hence, rendering it independent from the power grid.
As such, Six Senses Svart is the northernmost implementation of the Paris Agreement, demonstrating that carbon neutrality can be feasible in a sophisticated development at an eco-sensitive site.
It will also be self-sustaining, complete with its own waste and water management, recycling, and renewable infrastructure. The team will work with existing sustainable fishing and farming operations and engage local like-minded suppliers for the restaurants and bars. This is true innovation, the future of sustainability, and a property we cannot wait to visit.
New opening in Germany: Rocco Forte Villa Kennedy, Frankfurt
Villa Kennedy, was once a stately family home. The luxurious Rocco Forte hotel group has redone this incredible villa into 127 rooms and 36 suites, new this year. Beyond its building – the colonnaded
architecture, extensive gardens and fire-lit rooms – the hotel retains an intimate atmosphere.
This comfort is woven into the design, where clean, contemporary lines, soft natural tones and elegant metallics lift classic Frankfurt architecture.
At ground level, a light-filled spa looks into the garden; above, French balconies survey the city. From here you can slip into leafy Sachsenhausen’s lively bars, down to Frankfurt’s famed museum embankment or into St Bartholomew’s Cathedral, then meander back for an al fresco Italian supper in
Villa Kennedy’s tranquil grounds – your home in this dynamic German town.
