As there are so many spas that we love, it was hard choosing our favorites. Stunning destinations like the mountains, the lakes and the sea provide great backdrops for these spas. These are also properties looking to the future with an eye for the environment. Many are eco friendly, green or sustainable properties. This month, we are sharing some of our most special choices!
Lefay Resort and Spa, Lake Garda, Italy
The 93-room Lefay Resort and Spa Lago di Garda is an eco-friendly luxury hotel with spectacular view. It has a breathtaking location above Lake Garda., nestled in the mountains. It is one of the most highly awarded spas in Europe. You’ll find everything from traditional treatments to full programs that focus on everything from improving your posture to your digestion.
At the heart of the resort is almost infinite wellness area. The large floor-to-ceiling windows offer plenty of light and panoramic lake views. More than the views, there are six saunas of varying temperatures, a large salt lake, infinity pool. Also, a hammam, five relaxation areas, ice pool, whirlpool tub, indoor and outdoor heated salt-water pools. To finish, 21 treatment rooms, half with lake views, and two outdoor massage gazebos.
Sustainability and respecting the natural environment were kept in mind when designing the rooms. They’re simply decorated in natural tones that blend in with the mountains and the lake. They also have environmentally friendly cooling units, in another nod to sustainability. Even the toiletries that combine natural ingredients and medicinal plants, and are cruelty-free and vegan-certified. To sum it up, its one of the best spas we have ever been to!
Les Sources de Caudalie, Bordeaux, France
This luxury spa hotel has wine in every aspect of the experience. Les Sources de Caudalie has regional wines by the glass and by the bottle, of course. However, they also use wine in facials, scrubs, massages and more. The property looks like a charming country village right out of a postcard. Each of the hotel’s elegant rustic buildings has a different feel. The Vinothérapie Spa is birthplace of Caudalie’s world-famous, grape-based beauty products. There is also the 2 Michelin-starred La Grand Vigne restaurant, lovely yo sit out on the summer terrace. Or, dine at the more rustic, La Table du Lavoir. For those who overindulge too much with the excellent food and wine, there are extensive cycling paths through the multitude of vineyards.
Barcelo La Bobadilla, Andalucia, Spain
La Bobadilla started life as a farmhouse 25 years ago. The property is set in a 1,000-acre private estate of olive groves in the heart of the Andalusian countryside. Now, it is a charming 70-room hotel laged with courtyards, gardens and fountains – even a chapel.
The cool, marble-floored hotel lobby, with its towering brick colonnades reminiscent of the Alhambra. Rooms feature palatial bathrooms, shady terraces with countryside views and intricate Moorish design. The hotel also boasts an enormous swimming pool set in a beautiful green lawn. Also, there many activities from horse-riding to archery. A sustainable hotel, it’s known as an excellence in Andalusia and an example of Spanish Eco-Charm. The hotel has reduced its CO2 emissions by 80% and its energy consumption by 45%. It’0s a sustainability marvel, they installed a pioneering biomass plant. This replaces the propane gas with fuel from olive pits obtained from the olive grove in which the complex is located. Beyond a luxury hotel and spa, it’s another important step in preserving the environment.
Adler Spa, Dolomites, Italy
The resort is the historic heart of Ortisei – St. Ulrich, a German, Italian and Ladin-speaking community in the South Tyrol. This pretty town of Alpine chalets and pretty colored Tyrolean houses sits nestled by the majestic Unesco-protected Dolomites.
The facilities and activities are extensive, as is typical of the Adler chain – they also have spectacular spa hotels in Sicily and Tuscany. There are tons of daily activities (guided skiing, snow-shoeing, hiking, Nordic walking, mountain biking, ebiking and fitness classes) in the summer and winter.
